Earth Atlas

This exquisite limited edition, leather bound atlas takes cartography to a new level. For the map enthusiast, the collector, the armchair traveller, or for those who enjoy luxury, this beautiful leather-bound edition is a “must-have” for the library. The Royal Blue Collection consists of just 2000 sequentially numbered copies, available directly from Global Mapping's online mapshop Mapstop. Highly detailed maps, produced by a team of international cartographers, are the foundation of this book. Each country in the world is described and illustrated in detail, with focus on the geography, history, culture, and unique features.

EARTH also presents four stunning gatefolds measuring 1.8 meters across, including one titled “Earth from the Sky at Night”, a stunning image taken by NASA. More than 800 exquisite images were sourced from prestigious picture libraries, including a large number of images taken by National Geographic photographers.

Each copy of EARTH is individually numbered by our calligrapher in Hong Kong and is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity. EARTH’s leather cover is bound by hand with painstaking detail given to each stage of finishing. Gilded pages and a 15 kg preservation case made of hard wood covered in leather ensure this legacy is protected for generations.

EARTH is unique, the investment of £3,700 represents incredible value as EARTH takes cartography and publishing to a new stratosphere.

Earth Atlas, worlds largest atlas

  • Alan Smith (Global Mapping) with Audrey Williams from the CF Trust

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Global Mapping, one of the UK’s leading map producers, have teamed up to raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) - one of the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseases - by offering copies of EARTH to CF Supporters. Brackley based Global Mapping worked with the publishers throughout the production of the limited edition World Atlas and are still involved today.

EARTH is the most intricately detailed atlas of our time. With only 2,000 copies printed in blue leather, it is an exquisite time capsule of our world as it stands today, and is likely to be the last atlas of this grandeur to ever be produced. Beautifully presented in a leather-bound case, this hand-bound, hand numbered, 576-page tome weighing 20 kilos and measuring 610 x 468 mm is a statement both in taste and design as much as it is a significant contribution to the arts and to cartography. International markets have received the EARTH collections with enthusiasm, reserving a substantial portion of each of the collections. Distinguished libraries, corporations and private collectors have acquired EARTH.

Through the generosity of the Publishers Millennium House and UK distributors Global Mapping, a copy of this publishing paradigm has been given to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to raise much needed funds for their ongoing research. Audrey Williams, Fundraising Manager for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust said "When I first heard we were being offered EARTH, I did some research on the internet and could see it was special, but when I saw it for the first time I was amazed. The images are stunning, the maps are so detailed, it really is quite wonderful"

Earth Map - David Bellamy for the cystic fybrosis trust

Botanist David Bellamy wrote the foreword for EARTH and has signed a special certificate featuring the words from the foreword including this line "Read it with care and then, in the knowledge that Earth is the only home our children and grandchildren are going to inherit, I beg you to treat it with the care it deserves.";

Alan Smith, Managing Director at Global Mapping issued the following statement "We have wanted to offer a copy of EARTH to a charity for some time now, it’s difficult to choose when there are so many deserving causes and as so often happens it comes down to your personal experiences. The 14 year old son of my oldest friend has Cystic Fibrosis and every time I see him I'm impressed by his bravery in getting on with the daily physio, taking handfuls of tablets and sticking to a frankly boring diet. Then earlier this year I met the young sister of my daughters piano teacher who also has CF and was again struck by the same level of stoicism. I know the Trust has an urgent target to achieve in a short space of time to continue some important research so I'm delighted we can help in this way."

Since the initial offer Global Mapping have offered to donate 20% to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust from any sales of the remaining copies of EARTH made through the Trust. Anyone wishing to help the Trust either by purchasing a copy of EARTH or through other fund raising initiatives are urged to contact Audrey Williams on 03000 373 1036 or visit the Cystic Fibrosis Website

The 20-kg limited edition tome was judged by an independent jury of seven professors and doctors of Cartography from the International Cartographic Association (ICA). Over 70 atlases and 450 maps from around the world were entered into the awards, with EARTH taking the most coveted award of Best Atlas. "Lovely to meet you to, and thank you for personally delivering my copy of "EARTH". You are right, Nikki (wife) and I, did have the first look at the book and it was beyond what we had anticipated. Perfect for what I had envisaged its place in our families heritage to be."

"Just a quick message to say that my husband was bowled over with the Earth Atlas.
It was his birthday 2 weeks ago and I was able to someone hide it till then. I have never seen him so "gob smacked" by anything."
