Brackley’s own BiB has produced a new newsletter – to read it on line Click Here. Highlights include:
- To help promote local Brackley businesses, the Business Information Bureau is launching a new voucher booklet FREE to Brackley households. The booklet – worth over £300 – will be delivered in the coming weeks and will be available from all participating shops.
- What you need to know to be ready for the new £1 coin which comes into circulation on Tuesday 28 March.
- FREE one-on-one advice over coffee to any business that needs it. Especially suited to those start-ups and small firms that can’t afford the match funding that most Government schemes require. Office hours is about business people attending, both to give and receive advice… or simply meet up for a chat.

Ladies – a BIG new opportunity to make friends
Brackley Inbetweeners Group is being set up to cater for ladies who are – according to organiser Cath Noel – “no longer at toddler groups and not ready for Derby and Joan”. She adds: “We’ll be meeting at the extension of St Peter’s Church on the third Thursday of the month. Our aim is to meet monthly, make new friends and have new experiences.”

Under-14 side is looking for help from sponsors
Ioan Bush, captain of the Brackley Athletic FC U14 side of the coming season is looking for sponsors to help meet the costs of running the club. National Trust to deliver Volunteer Training in Brackley
South Northamptonshire Volunteer Burean reports that the National Trust will be delivering Volunteer Tour Guide training for the Brackley Town Hall Project. Melissa Maynard from the National Trust’s Belton House in Lincolnshire will be in Brackley to train volunteers in the art of fantastic tour guiding. Summer events at Stowe HouseFrom Saturday 29 July to Saturday 5 August. A full seven days of fun, intense, professional workshops leading up to a performance of Into The Woods by Stephen Sondheim. Develop skills in singing, dancing and acting with highly experienced West End and Youth Music professionals. Technical Theatre options are also available. Ages: 10 to 18 years. The Formula One British Grand Prix will take place at Silverstone from 14 to 16 July. Please be aware that there will be local diversions and road closures. School holiday hubs all ready for a summer of fun
The sessions provide an excellent opportunity for children to learn, improve, make friends and have fun and you can book online now. The children are split into 5-7 and 8-years-plus age groups. Every day a coached activity will be delivered by a qualified coach who is linked to a local club to make children aware of the local club in the area and where to carry on participation afterwards. Coached sessions will normally run between 10am andk midday. Throughout the day Multi Skills, Fun and Games, Team Activities and Arts and Crafts are delivered.
Multi Skills: These activities are based around the fundamentals of movement and play, agility, balance, co-ordination and speed. Activities are fun sessions working on these fundamentals and how to progress these to improve levels.
Fun and Games: These activities are all about engagement of the children and used as introduction games such as clap catch, parachute games, splat and more to encourage children to participate.
Team Games: These are normally played in the afternoon after skills have been developed through the day. Obstacle relays will be played along with team games such as rounders, Kwik Cricket, and many more.
Arts and Crafts: These will be participated in the afternoon to cool down and cater for young people who enjoy arts and crafts. Every day will be themed Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Space, Animals etc and arts and crafts activities will be based around these themes.
Session structure and price: 8:45am to 3pm £14.95 per session;
8:45am to 5pm £18.95 per session. Brackley venue is Magdalen College School, Brackley.

Every Thursday, 8pm: Stokie’s Blues Exchange partner dance class at Westbury Village Hall, Playing Field Road, Westbury NN13 5LA. The class will focus on the fundamentals of Blues partner dancing including musicality, expression, connection and style. Come along to our dance classes and we’ll teach you a range of skills. It is quite simple to pick up, and we can help the complete beginner to enjoy the magic of dancing from their first night! It’s just £8 on the door before 9pm and £5 after 9pm. Class starts at 8.15 and social dancing is from 9pm to 11pm.

Friday 14 July, 7.30-9pm: The Darcys at Home, at Evenley Village Hall, is a presentation celebrating the life and work of Jane Austen, referring to Elizabeth (nee Bennett) and Fitzwilliam Darcy of Pemberley from Pride and Prejudice. Period refreshments will be served during the interval. It is hoped that those attending will wear period costume, though this is not essential.

Thursday 20 July, 10am: – Brackley & District U3A monthly meeting at Brackley Methodist Church, High Street. This month’s speaker is Richard Banyard, whose topic is: “The NHS – Key National Institution or Historic Relic?” Richard has been involved in NHS management since the early 1970s, including as a chief executive. He is now an independent management consultant. Richard’s talk will trace the development of the NHS from its pre-war roots and explore some of the dilemmas and challenges faced in delivering a “free” service. The talk will also touch upon some current key issues. Visitors will be very welcome at this meeting.

Wednesday 6 September, 7.30pm: Brackley and District History Society meets at Brackley Methodist Church Hall. Martin Sirot-Smith will talk about ‘Tudor Daily Life’. If you were poor you worked on land whose owners took some of the food you grew as rent. Most people lived in small villages of thatched huts with one or two rooms. Boys went to school from the age of four until seven, while girls were kept at home to help or were sent out to work.
